Perlin is part of the Media Research Lab at NYU, http://mrl.nyu.edu/, which covers many areas in computer graphics, visualization and human-computer interaction. Demetri Terzopoulos, another professor connected to the Lab, and his team "create physics-based virtual worlds inhabited by realistic artificial animals.
